Hours after reports circulating that The 97th Oscars ceremony being cancelled amid Los Angeles wildfires, the Academy dismissed the news as false, reported The Hollywood Reporter.
The U.K. tabloid newspaper The Sun posted a story on its website on Tuesday evening, titled "OSCARS THREAT - Oscars 2025 on verge of being cancelled as bosses secretly plot major changes to ceremony after LA wildfires."
Several sites in India and abroad picked up the news and it's being widely circulated that Oscars is being cancelled this year.
Dismissing the news, The Hollywood Reporter confirmed that there is no plan to cancel the ceremony and that no such advisory committee, reportedly involving celebrities like Tom Hanks and Meryl Streep, exists.
The report claimed, the only body responsible for decisions regarding the Oscars is the Academy's 55-person board of governors.
While the wildfires have prompted some adjustments, such as extending the nominations voting period and postponing the Oscar Nominees Luncheon, the board has affirmed that the awards ceremony will proceed as planned.
Earlier AFP also reported the Academy hasn't changed the date of Oscars ceremony till now.
The Academy said on Monday that it would go ahead with its gala evening at the Dolby Theatre on March 2.
"Our members always share how important it is for us to come together as a community, and we are determined to use this opportunity to celebrate our resilient and compassionate industry," a statement said.
"We also look forward to honoring our frontline workers who have aided with the fires, recognizing those impacted, and encouraging people to join the Academy in supporting the relief efforts."
The 97th Academy Awards is scheduled to take place on March 2.
